Blue Heelers as Working Dogs
Blue Heelers have been bred with incredible natural instincts. With knowledge housed in an athletic body of speed and stamina, these dogs are trained to gather herd, drive livestock and help with people's day to day work in ranches without the help of the rancher.
Blue Heelers are not just an ordinary dog that most people have in their house as pets. Unlike other dogs, they are very active with low boredom tolerance. They require lots of mental and physical motivation. It's not in their breeding/genetics to be "regular" household pets. Their breed will not tolerate letting the whole day passed without having vigorous activities. They are often aggressive towards other animals, particularly to dogs of the same sex.
It takes a good dog trainer and a cattle dog training school that is equipped with proper knowledge and facilities for training to make a good Blue Heeler. Trainers will also help you and guide you in the proper care for your heeler. If your dogs are trained well, they are intelligent and watchful which makes them ideal watcher and defender for the rancher, cattle and properties. But the owner should have a strong personality and authoritative mind to be able to handle this wise and dominant minded breed. If you are not, then the quick sensing cattle dog will generally turn the situation to his advantage.
